Weeklong Jazz Camp for high school and middle school students nationwide! It has been an honor the last few years to serve alongside such great musicians to help advance interest and knowledge in young jazz musicians. The kids are so talented and extremely well-behaved! It reminds me of how fulfilling a teaching career can be. Not to mention we have nightly concerts featuring myself with Leon Anderson, Rodney Jordan, Marcus Roberts, and many more greats!! Good times!!

As a composer, he also adds an original mixture of styles to the set which give his band a distinctive sound. If you can make it, I guarantee you won't be dissappointed. This is THE oldest, running classic between HBCU'S in existence, boasting capacity audiences for the last 72 years. Now in its 73rd Anniversary, the classic has grown to include : A Battle of the Bands and Stepshow on Friday night; A Parade through the Streets of Downtown Columbus, Georgia on Saturday morning; the Football game between the two rivals on Saturday afternoon; and a concluding concert featuring some of the musical icons of our generation! If you can make it, this will be a fun-filled weekend as two of the country's most prestigious Historically Black Institutions display their athletic and Music programs.

This event is open to the public, so if you feel like swinging the holiday season in with the perfect balance of the spiritual and jazz aspects of the music, this is the event for you. I have been called upon to serve as a judge for the Annual High School Battle of the Bands in L.A.! I love getting the opportunity to see other bands in action, especially high school bands as they show an excitement and love for the craft that is sometimes lost with age. Events like this really recharge me, so I can't wait for the opportunity.

On the road with the "Celebrity Hitbox" under the leadership of grammy award winning bassist/ producer Ronnie Garrett! This band is one of the most enjoyable groups I've ahd the honor of performing with since moving back to Atlanta. Though they only perform for exclusive events currently, we hope to soon be able to share this experience with the general population.

Friday Jazz Series featuring Atlanta's Premiere Pianist and Educator Gary Motley! I love to play with Gary, because there are so many dimensions to what he can do at the piano. As aneducator he has really found a way to bridge the gap between the modern and historic aspects of the instrument. That always makes for a great show! If you can make it, I guarantee you won't be dissappointed. (seems like I can't get enough of the "High"!)

I'm excited about the opportunity to be featured with the Berry College Jazz Ensemble. The director of the group, Adam Hayes, is a fantastic trumpet player that I had the opportunity to play with on an All-Star Big Band concert. So I'm eager to see hwo he's shaping the minds of the "jazzheads" in Rome!

Performance with the Mace Hibbard Quintet. Mace is one of the baddest alto players I'vecome across, and it's great that he's decided to stay in Atlanta. This will defintelybe an exciting evening as the entire band consists of adventurous musicans, each at the top of his respective game. Come on out and be a part of the scene!

It will be an honor to perform for the opening ceremony of the "After 1968: Contemporary Artists and the Civil Rights Legacy" Photography Exhibition in D.C. This is a fantastic display commisioned by the High Museum to display the most comprehensive holdings of Civil Rights–era photography in the country. It is a very powerful collection of images, and I would prompt everyone to take the opportunity to catch this exhibit while it tours the U.S.

These songs are timeless classics. With a career that spans 5 decades and voice that seems to get better with time, this Georgia Peach is unmistakably amazing.

Not too long ago, I had the opportunity to serve as clinician and perform with the legendary Rufus Reid at the Florida State University Jazz Festival. It's really a great atmosphere, as the Jazz Program is staffed by some of the most in-demand musicians in the country. Now I have the opportunity to return to FSU to serve as an instructor for their summer jazzcamp.

"Jazz at the High" Series featuring the Melvin Jones Quintet! This is a highly popular jazz series offered once a month which offers the audience a classy, live jazz-oriented event with refreshments available. The High Museum is located in Midtown on the corner of 14th Street and Peachtree.

Performance with an Atlanta All Star Band under the direction of famed musician/ producer Ronnie Garrett. This is an unbelievably talented group of musicians, and I can't wait to perform with them!

Performance witht he legendary Gary Motley Quartet! Gary is ne of the most gifted pianists/ arrangers in this region of the country, and he also happens to be a good friend of mine. He also serves the Director of Jazz Studies for Emory University, in which he is single-handedly building one of the most impressive programs in the area. The Morehouse College Jazz Ensemble will be performing in this historic venue in Macon, Georgia as part of the Jazz Appreciation month. It's a fantastic opportunity for the band, as the stage of the Douglass Theatre has housed legendary artists such as Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, Lena Horne, Cab Calloway, and the list goes on! This will be great!

This is a great new club that just recently opened up in the historic Castleberry district under the ownership of Legendary Comedian/ Actor Don "D.C." Curry! This will be the opportunity for the Morehouse College Jazz Ensemble to highlight some of their repertoire, as this will be their final performance for the 2008 season. The band has consistently performed to sold-out crowds and received rave reviews as "one fo the most entertaining gorups in the country." The band will be under my direction and the concert will feature one my esteemed colleagues (and one the most amazing Woodwind Artists I've ever known), Clarence Johnson on Saxophone! The event is free and open to the public. You don't want to miss this concert!

This is a very exciting opportunity to be a part of the world famous PGA Masters Tournament Series taking place in Augusta, Georgia. Though the event is private, there's no telling who will actually be there. The sextet will consist of some of Atlanta's finest talent, and will perform a range of repertoire, mostly featuring Jazz Standards.

This is a "superband" in the sense that this Big Band is comprised of some of the finest musicians in the Southeast all coming together to perform the most challenging arrangements. MOst of these guys are professors and professional performing artists, as the leader of the band is actually the Director of Bands for North Georgia College. This is a wonderful event presented by the Memphis Chapter of the Morehouse College Alumni Association and the New Olivet Baptist Churh Outreach Ministry. This year's them will commemorate the Assasination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, and highlight his well-known affinity for Jazz Music. This will definitely be an evening to remember as the Morehouse Jazz Ensemble will serve as the featured ensemble for the evening.

Melvin Jones Quartet featuring Mark Raudabaugh on Drums! this will mark my first opportunity to perform in a very nice jazz club in Savannah I just happened to come acoss on one of my trips down there. The band will ocnsist of some of the finest guys from the area, including Mark Raudabaugh on Drums, and Brian Leitch on Guitar. The cover is $10.00, and the music will be swingin! This is THE oldest, running classic between HBCU'S in existence, boasting capacity audiences for the last 71 years. Now in its 72nd Anniversary, the classic has grown to include : A Battle of the Bands and Stepshow on Friday night; A Parade through the Streets of Downtown Columbus, Georgia on Saturday morning; the Football game between the two rivals on Saturday afternoon; and a concluding concert featuring some of the musical icons of our generation! If you can make it, this will be a fun-filled weekend as two of the country's most prestigious Historically Black Institutions display their athletic and Music programs.

The 9th Annual Morehouse College Jazz Festival! I will be hosting this annual festival which in the past has featured such notables as Slide Hampton, Jon Faddis, Mulgrew Miller, James Williams, and Freddy Cole! All events and concerts are FREE and open to the public. Hope to see you there!

I will be performing with the Clarke Central high School Jazz Ensemble as a part of their Jazz Festival! I'm looking forward to the opportunity to play with these kids, as their band has continuously impressed me!

This is a nice event which takes place annually in Atlanta, Georgia, and showcases "Show-Style" Marching Bands from some of the country's top Historically-Black Collegs and Universities! I will be present at this recruitment fair to represent my school, Morehouse College!
